We speak of an epidemic when a lot of people contract the same disease within a short period of time. The Public Health Department determines the presence of an epidemic based on the number of people who are ill.

What can you do before an epidemic

If an epidemic is imminent, the Public Health Department or the Lieutenant Governor informs the population about what citizens can do. Follow the instructions given. Maintain a healthy lifestyle, as it reduces vulnerability to certain diseases and epidemics.

What to do during an epidemic

  • Stay home if you have a contagious disease.
  • Keep a significant distance from infected people.
  • Call your doctor or the Public Health Department of the OLB if you have symptoms that resemble an infection. Follow their advice.
  • Always use disposable tissues and discard them after use.
  • Cover your mouth when sneezing or coughing. Cough or sneeze into your elbow.
  • Wash your hands thoroughly regularly, including before eating or after going to the toilet.
